The net cash and cash equivalents transferred in and out of a company. Cash received represents inflows, while money spent represents outflows. A company creates value for shareholders through its ability to generate positive cash flows and maximize long-term free cash flow (FCF).
There are three cash flow types that companies should track and analyze to determine the liquidity and solvency of the business: cash flow from operating activities, cash flow from investing activities and cash flow from financing activities. All three are included on a company's cash flow statement.
The cash flow statement is broken down into three categories: Operating activities, investment activities, and financing activities.
-
A balance sheet is a financial statement that reports a company's assets, liabilities, and shareholder equity. The balance sheet is one of the three core financial statements that are used to evaluate a business. It provides a snapshot of a company's finances (what it owns and owes) as of the date of publication.
The 3 types of balance sheets are:
Comparative balance sheets.
Vertical balance sheets.
Horizontal balance sheets.
-
A general ledger is used to record a company's ongoing transactions. Within a general ledger, transactional data is organized into assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, and owner's equity. After each sub-ledger has been closed out, the accountant prepares the trial balance.
